A CLEAR STARTING POINT

What is VAT Compliance Audit?

A VAT compliance audit service is an independent, scoped review of a business’s VAT records and controls. It can identify inconsistencies, evidence gaps and process weaknesses. It is not an FTA tax audit, an audit opinion or a guarantee that every error will be found.

A filed return can still sit on weak records or inconsistent procedures. We examine how transactions are coded, reviewed and reconciled, with particular attention to exceptions and the evidence behind management’s treatment decisions.

The review scope states the entities, periods and testing approach. If sampling is used, the report should explain that limitation. A useful finding records the issue, supporting evidence, potential consequence and person responsible for the next action.

DEFINED WORK. USEFUL OUTPUTS.

What does our VAT compliance audit support include?

We agree the work, deliverables and exclusions before starting. The following workstreams guide that conversation; they are not a promise that every case needs the same engagement.

Risk & scope planning

Identify the entities, periods, transaction streams and areas of concern. Agree whether testing is targeted, sample-based or broader.

Registration & reporting checks

Review the consistency of account information, filing records and internal responsibilities.

Transaction testing

Examine selected sales, purchases, credit notes and other relevant transactions against their supporting records.

Reconciliation review

Trace VAT reports to ledgers and returns. Investigate unexplained movements rather than treating matching totals as sufficient.

Control assessment

Review tax-code changes, approvals, document retention and the handling of unusual transactions.

Findings & remediation

Deliver a prioritised issue register with evidence, recommended actions and limitations. Agree any follow-up testing separately.

HOW THE WORK MOVES FORWARD

From the first review to a documented next step.

  1. 01

    Scope the review

    Agree coverage, priorities and access.

  2. 02

    Test the evidence

    Examine selected transactions and reconciliations.

  3. 03

    Discuss the findings

Validate facts and separate confirmed issues from open questions.

  4. 04

    Plan remediation

Assign actions, owners and evidence of completion.

We agree the sequence, information deadlines and review points before work begins.

BUILT AROUND YOUR OPERATIONS

Different businesses. Different priorities.

Dubai mainland and free-zone businesses can have different reporting needs. We confirm the entity, activity and applicable requirements instead of assuming one approach fits every company.

Trading & distribution

Goods movements, imports and supplier records can affect the evidence needed. Describe the supply chain as well as the invoice.

Professional services

Contracts, milestones and customer arrangements help explain the actual supply. A description on an invoice may not be sufficient.

Retail & e-commerce

Include platform settlements, credit notes and transaction-level reports so the records can be reconciled beyond a bank deposit.

FEES & DELIVERY

A quote based on the work you need.

Fees for VAT compliance audit are agreed after an initial scope review. Professional fees are separate from any applicable tax, penalties or authority charges. Confirm the deliverables and exclusions in the proposal.

  • Entities and periods in scope
  • Quality and availability of supporting records
  • Transaction complexity and unresolved questions
  • Required deliverables and follow-up support

PRACTICAL ANSWERS

VAT compliance audit. Your questions answered.

Start here, then discuss the details that depend on your records, deadlines and business structure.

Ask the A&A team →
Is this an official FTA audit?

No. This is a business-commissioned compliance review. An FTA tax audit is a separate authority-led process.

Will the review certify that we are fully compliant?

No. Conclusions depend on the scope, evidence and testing approach. We do not promise that every error will be detected or issue an FTA compliance certificate.

Can you review only one high-risk area?

Yes, where that scope is appropriate. The report should state what was tested and what was excluded so a targeted review is not mistaken for complete coverage.

What happens if you identify an old error?

We explain the finding and recommend assessment of the correction route. Any disclosure or amendment is separately authorised and scoped.

How often should a business review its VAT controls?

Frequency should reflect transaction complexity, staff or system changes and earlier findings. Agree a risk-based review rhythm rather than assume one interval suits every business.

What will management receive?

The agreed deliverables can include a findings register, supporting observations, prioritised actions and the limitations of the work performed.
