Free consultation →VAT RETURN FILING FOR UAE BUSINESSES · DUBAI & UAE
Move from spreadsheets and invoices to a reviewed VAT return. A&A helps reconcile the period, investigate exceptions and prepare the filing working, with clear responsibility for approval, submission and payment.
A CLEAR STARTING POINT
VAT return filing reports the VAT position for an assigned tax period. A useful filing process connects the figures to sales, purchases, imports and adjustments, documents review questions and retains evidence of the approved submission.
A software VAT report is a starting point, not proof that every transaction is correct. Timing differences, credit notes, unusual supplies and inconsistent tax codes need review before the return is approved.
The FTA states that returns and related payments are due within 28 days after the tax period ends. Confirm your assigned period and applicable due date in EmaraTax. We work backwards from that date to agree document cut-offs and approval time.

DEFINED WORK. USEFUL OUTPUTS.
We agree the work, deliverables and exclusions before starting. The following workstreams guide that conversation; they are not a promise that every case needs the same engagement.
Confirm the relevant entity, reporting period, due date and document cut-off.
Compare VAT reports with sales, purchase and control-account records, identifying unexplained differences.
Examine unusual items, credit notes, imports and tax-code exceptions within the agreed review scope.
Prepare the return working with supporting schedules and a list of issues requiring management confirmation.
Obtain sign-off and agree the authorised filing process. Keep the submission acknowledgement with the working papers.
Communicate the approved position and payment responsibility. Reconcile evidence of payment and retain the period pack.
HOW THE WORK MOVES FORWARD
Bring the records together and investigate missing items.
Build the return and document exceptions.
Obtain confirmation before the authorised submission.
Confirm payment action and archive the final pack.
We agree the sequence, information deadlines and review points before work begins.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT SUPPORT
These tasks are connected but should not be assumed to happen automatically when one is completed.

| Task | Main question | Completion evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Bookkeeping | Are transactions recorded? | Reconciled ledgers and source records. |
| VAT review | Is the treatment and period supported? | Review notes and resolved exceptions. |
| Return filing | Has the approved return been submitted? | Submission acknowledgement. |
| Payment | Has the amount been paid correctly? | Payment evidence and account check. |
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE — NOT CLIENT RESULTS
Illustration only: assume output VAT of AED 15,000 and eligible recoverable input VAT of AED 9,000, with no other adjustments or balances.
Swipe across the table to compare all columns →
| Working line | Illustrative amount | Review point |
|---|---|---|
| Output VAT | AED 15,000 | Reconcile with the supported sales position. |
| Recoverable input VAT | AED 9,000 | Confirm eligibility and supporting evidence. |
| Net VAT payable | AED 6,000 | 15,000 minus 9,000 before other items. |
| Payment responsibility | Named authorised payer | Filing alone is not payment. |
This simplified subtraction is not a completed return. Actual reporting may include imports, reverse-charge entries, adjustments and other relevant items.

BUILT AROUND YOUR OPERATIONS
Dubai mainland and free-zone businesses can have different reporting needs. We confirm the entity, activity and applicable requirements instead of assuming one approach fits every company.
Goods movements, imports and supplier records can affect the evidence needed. Describe the supply chain as well as the invoice.
Contracts, milestones and customer arrangements help explain the actual supply. A description on an invoice may not be sufficient.
Include platform settlements, credit notes and transaction-level reports so the records can be reconciled beyond a bank deposit.
FEES & DELIVERY
Fees for VAT return filing are agreed after an initial scope review. Professional fees are separate from any applicable tax, penalties or authority charges. Confirm the deliverables and exclusions in the proposal.
PRACTICAL ANSWERS
Start here, then discuss the details that depend on your records, deadlines and business structure.
Ask the A&A team →Check the period assigned to your tax account rather than assuming a quarterly cycle. Our filing calendar follows your actual reporting obligations.
We first identify the gaps and their significance. Missing information should be escalated promptly; we do not invent figures to complete a return.
No. Submission and payment are separate tasks. Confirm who will pay, when they will act and how payment completion will be checked.
Identify the affected period, nature and amount before deciding the correction route. An old error should not simply be hidden in the current return.
Share the system and export formats during scoping. We agree the reports and access needed, including any manual reconciliation.
The agreed handover includes the approved return working, submission evidence, unresolved-item notes and payment information. Record storage and ongoing follow-up should be agreed.
